Reckon I could feel quite comfortable there myself with a packed lunch, a 500mm lens and a six pack of Coopers on ice. Bet the mosquitos put a dampener on things though(?)

@Stu: No mosquitoes and no cockroaches in Canberra (unlike Sydney or Brisbane where they crawl all over you day and night), just millions of flies and tiny flesh eating spiders. These wetlands may be reclaimed soon for the development of thousands of apartments (e.g. like these - high end too).
I just read your comment to Stu... they're going to take out this wetlands for development of condos??? Apparently, the Aus gov't is as stupid as ours in Canada. Unless I'm misreading this and it would be a good thing for these wetlands to go? I could sit there a spell, too... well, as long I was encased in something spider proof!! LOL Those are swamp hens out there?

@amy: Goodness knows what those birds are - I don't watch them, but I do like venturing into these hides because they are SPOOKY - I expect to be mugged or find a corpse or a couple in flagrante ... - on my way through the bush on a dusty bike track. It's the local government of the territory, not the federal govt which is selling off the lake's foreshore to developers, one reason being the crisis in housing supply in Australia - prices to buy are higher here than in the US - and rents are astronomical. Meltdown is around the corner, how about chez toi?
