It's Australia Day today, January 26th. In mid-winter 2007, Australian newspapers trifled with the question of whether Prime Minister John Howard, (right of picture)would retire before the national election in November 2007, handing the leadership of the Liberal government over to his deputy, Treasurer Peter Costello (left of picture). @Behrooz Sangani: Yes, it's a very recent saying - post 1988. It's not what we would say before that because it is the ONE day of the year that Aboriginal Australians traditionally resented.
