These look like what we call "Birds of Paradise"... not that they grow here but I have seen the same in Hawaii.

@amy: Yes, they're common from Sydney northwards into the tropics. We have birds called "Birds of Paradise" so the term is avoided, I presume, when talking about this plant.
Oui, comme le dit Amy, on appelle aussi ces plantes "oiseaux du paradis". Ça fait une belle transition avec la photo du pélican...

@Henri Rabagny: Merci Henri - je remarque maintenant le pourpe - ou bien le "noise" autour du silhouette du pelican et de la mouette, et c'est a cause du coupage et de l'elargement, en effet.
