Shredding the PM's Department

Posted by Sidonie (Sydney, Australia) on 30 May 2007 in Architecture and Portfolio.

This building used to be the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Canberra. In its final stages of demolition, it signifies both the short life of 1960s architecture, and the boom times we live in. The new PM's Department next door is a granite-faced, bland and boring box structure with long blinded windows, even less interesting than this folly of modernity. The flagpole of the new Parliament on Capital Hill is in the background.
