Rocky Mountain House (or as the locals call it Rocky) was established because of the fur trade back in the 1700's (I think). It started out as Acton House(because of the fort/house the fur traders would try to winter in). There were 3 different forts built on the river (North Saskatchewan River) through time. The explorer David Thompson was very instrumental in mapping the area and therefore establishing the area. Lots of history here. But nothing to really show for it. We're now pretty much just an oil/lumber/agriculture town. Big transient population because of the gas and oil industry being the most prevalent. And there's your history lesson for the day ;-) I love that you looked it up!!!!
