Australia Day #2

Kids cooling off in a fountain which was empty last week because of water restrictions. This one was filled with water as a special concession to the gathering of people at the "Aboriginal Embassy" tent nearby and opposite Old Parliament House, Canberra, for Australia Day 2007. January 26th commemorates the arrival of British ships landing on the site of Sydney in 1788 - not an occasion for celebration in Aboriginal Australia.

Lovely mood shot! lots of energy and with the water shortage and heat and everything - these kids have got it made!! The old debate rages here - do we change our 'national day' from Waitangi Day to 'New Zealand Day'. I think we should just have another holiday myself (but no-one asked me!!).
Great capture and I love the cropping.

That's a problem as I'm aware of there in Australia. This picture demonstrates that. They just couldn't wait to get wet, could they.

@Ahraht: Canberra is inland 60kms and more from the coast: the fabled beaches of Australia are far away for these kids.
