Black

Black Swan, (Cygnus atratus), is the official bird of Western Australia although it inhabits wetlands throughout Australia. Together with the emu, it appears on the Australian coat of arms and represents Western Australia. On Canberra's emblem, the bird symbolises Aboriginality. Of the seven species of swan world wide, only two are not pure white, the South American black-necked swan and the Australian black swan. They have been introduced to Sweden and New Zealand.

I took this photo at a popular picnic spot on Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra where dozens and dozens of swans and a few pelicans cluster, waiting for scraps.
