Dry Pond #2

Drought, global warming, and water restrictions this summer. We cannot afford to waste precious water: we need every drop just to keep living.

This is one of many empty ponds in Canberra. Located in front of the National Library of Australia, it usually dances with high sprays from the fountains, a welcome place to rest and dangle hot tired feet.

Doesn't look quite as inviting without the water, does it. I can almost feel the heat radiating from my screen.

Oh...and thanks for answering my question Sidonie. However....I'm beginning to regret asking it now! I feel I'll have to photoshop it and remove the object in question immediately! ;-)

Oh I forgot about the exif data thing. Yeah, i'm not sure. I only noticed it myself afew days ago. They've been tweeking the site recently, I've noticed one or two other small changes too. I think the membership is swelling beyond expectations so it might be something to do with that. Not sure though.

I vow to stop whining about having too much rain henceforth! By this time of the year we are usually having our own water restrictions and no fountains, but not this year...

Mirrors scenes right across Melbourne. At least your grass is still green, the ovals and parks down here are like paddocks of dust!

@Chris Sullivan: You know, now I think of it, we CAN smell the Victorian bushfires here - it doesn't take much wind to carry smoke of that extent 800kms north. The patches of green only appear in the Parliamentary triangle - where the tourists flock to visit the national institutions.

Here is a photo to misery. Don't get me wrong. The photo is nice, but the problem is serious. Thank you for reminding us that the lack of water is a real problem not only for you but also for the rest of the world. I'm tempted to believe that this is a measure from your city hall to avoid waste.
